Working on Mosaic Knitting Patterns. Töötan mosaiik-koes mustritega.

Over the last couple of month, I've been quite obsessed with mosaic knitting. I designed a mosaic sock pattern for an Estonian knitting forum MKAL and after that, I haven't been able to stop drawing mosaic patterns for a blanket or throw. I have drawn dozens of motifs in different styles, more than enough for several blankets. It's a huge commitment to knit a blanket and I haven't decided yet how to proceed. I would like to run a Mystery Knit-a-Long, releasing one motif every week or two. What do you think of the idea? Would you like to join in? I'll see where this idea leads me.

Meanwhile, I'm translating the sock pattern into English and will start test knitting in a week or two. As I can't stop working on mosaic squares, I drew up some cute motifs for a baby blanket or washcloth. I even don't have any babies around! How crazy is that! I have no plans to write a pattern for a baby blanket or washcloth in near future and I don't upload the pattern to Ravelry. Instead, I decided to share some free patterns in my blog, Instagram  and Facebook page.

If you are familiar with mosaic knitting, feel free to use the chart below. Otherwise, please follow the directions:
The Duck is knitted using mosaic/colour slip-stitch knitting technique in garter stitch.
MC  main colour, white in the chart, green in the sample
CC  contrasting colour, yellow in the chart and in the sample
Mosaic knitting involves slipping the stitches in a row that should be the "other" colour. If you are knitting the yellow colour, you slip the white; if you are knitting the white colour, you slip the yellow.
Each row in  the chart is worked twice.
With MC (white), cast on 39 stitches.
Row 1, MC: Knit to the end of row, turn, knit Row 1 again. Leave MC hanging.
Row 2: Attach CC (yellow). Slip white stitches purlwise with yarn in back and knit yellow stitches, turn, slip white stitches purlwise with yarn in front (all yarn floats are on the wrong side of the work), knit yellow stitches. Leave CC hanging.
Row 3: Knit with MC forth and back.
Work in the same manner to the end of the chart. Can't be easier, right?
Remember: Always slip stitches as if to purl; that is, insert the needle from right to left, and carry the yarn on the wrong side of the work. You will always work two rows in each colour and the two rows are the same: a stitch never changes its colour in the second row.

I used fingering weight cotton yarn and 3 mm (US 2½) needles, the square is 15x15 cm/ 6x6".
  • Have a project in mind already where to use the Duck? Please share and tag me in IG/FB @arellaseatondesign. I love to see your project!
  • Have a suggestion for another pattern? Let me know, I might draw it up ;

Stay in touch, more patterns to come!
Enjoy!

Paari viimase kuu jooksul olen ma olnud mosaiik-kudumise lainel.

Motiiv on ripskoes. Iga rida kootakse kaks korda ühe ja sama värviga, teine värv ootab rea alguses.
Silmused, mis on real "teist" värvi, tõstetakse kudumata ära. Lõngajooksud on alati töö pahemal pool.
Võta PV ja loo üles 39 silmust.
Rida 1, PV: Koo parempidi üks rida, keera töö, koo sama rida uuesti. Jäta PV ootele.
Rida 2, KV: Ühenda KV. Silmused, mis on skeemis "teist" värvi (valged), tõsta kudumata paremale vardale pahempidise kudumise võttega (kollane lõng töö taga), kollased silmused koo.

Head kudumist!

Pattern Release: Sõel. Uus muster ilmunud: Sõel.

I have a new pattern to share! I'm quite excited I finally released the pattern. It seems like an easy and fast knit, and that's right. The loop is worked in rounds and uses a very simple four-stitch lace repeat. Every other round is knit, so just sit back and relax. Still, it took several attempts to get the pattern right. At first, I slipped stitches from one needle to another every time I started a new round but really it's not necessary once I figured out where the problem was.
I called the pattern Sõel because it's a very holey mesh. The pattern name Sõel comes from Estonian and means a sieve. The Sõel is an intriguing accessory which can be worn as a loop, cowl, capelette or snood. It is very airy and stretchy, perfect for Spring or even Summer.  The pattern is easily adaptable in width and length. The lace pattern is written out and charted. I even didn't block it, just loved the squishy texture of the loop. When washed, I just laid it flat to dry, gathering the cowl in initial measurements to keep it full of squishy texture. Just one skein of that beautiful fingering-weight hand-dyed yarn laying in your stash waiting to be knit makes a wonderful infinity loop in no time worked on big needles.
Introductory discount 30% off (no coupon code required) until midnight, Sunday, March 31 (UK time zone). Thank you and please share your project!

Kevadisel ajal tahan ma ikka kaela soojas hoida, mine sa tuult tea. Ringsall on mõnus, sest kandmisviise on palju, vastavalt vajadusele. Esialgne plaan sall ära kinkida asenus kiirelt sooviga see endale jätta. Minu uus lemmik!

MKAL in Progress. Salakudumine edeneb jõudsalt.

Look! Aren't they beautiful! Mystery Knit-a-long is in full swing. Makes me so happy to see all socks growing. Gussets are stripy in the original pattern, like on Sunray's socks. Several knitters made gussets in sole pattern as in Katriina's socks, and why not. I love creative knitters!
I will translate the pattern into English and add it to my collection of mosaic sock patterns in Ravelry.
Katriina koob
Vaata vaid neid iludusi! Salajane sokikudumine Mustrimaailmas edeneb hoogsalt. Originaalses mustris on kannakiil triibuline, nagu Sunray kudus. Mitmed kudujad tegid kannakiilu tallamustris nagu Katriina sokis. Tore on näha modifikatsioone.

The Sokikesed Pattern Update. Sokikeste muster täiendatud.

Do you remember the Sokikesed socks I made last summer? I wasn't entirely happy with the charts.  So I decided to create new charts, a separate chart for each size. There are four sizes given with four options on how to work the lace pattern on the top of the foot. Can you spot the difference in stripy and white sock patterns? One is small and textured, another more open and lacy.
The pattern is updated in Ravelry now.
Summer is just around the corner, time to knit summery socks again!

* * *

Kudusin need Sokikesed ja kirjutasin mustri möödunud suvel. Tundus, et skeemid võiksid paremad olla. Mõni kuduja oli väheke segaduses, kuidas skeemi lugeda. Nüüd võtsin kätte ja tegin uued skeemid, iga suuruse jaoks oma skeem, kokku neli suurust. Mustrivariante, mille vahel valida, on ka neli. Tähelepanelik vaatleja märkab erinevust. Triibulise soki muster on kompaktsem, valge soki muster avatum.
Suvi pole enam kaugel, aeg suvesokke kududa!

Socks News. Sokiuudiseid.

I have several socks news to share! The Tulips KAL is still running strong. Have you cast on a pair yourself? Post your finished socks project in Ravelry by 10th March and I will gift you a coupon code for 40% off on one of the single patterns in my Ravelry store! The KAL thread will stay open. Welcome to post your socks anytime! I enjoy seeing all the colourful tulips blooming. Aren't they amazing? There are more pairs up on Ravelry and even more to come.

Mul on mitmeid sokiuudiseid jagada!

Remember these Ripe 'n Ready Socks? It's one of my early patterns. I love the pattern and I was happy when it was picked for HiyaHiya Free & Fun KAL coming up in April/May. Two coloured mosaic cables look amazing and they are relatively easy to knit. The mosaic cable pattern knits up using just one of the yarns at a time, much easier than stranded colourwork. Providing the pattern for the KAL was a great opportunity for me to update the pattern. I made new charts, added one more size, so it comes in three sizes now. The pattern was newly tech edited and test knitted. If you want the pattern for free, hop over to the HiyaHiya KAL thread (linked above). Otherwise, it's available on Ravelry. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to update the German version yet. I have to upload a new pdf to LoveKnitting too, in my ever-growing todo list.
Celebrating re-release of the pattern with 20% off discount (no coupon code required) until midnight, Sunday, March 10 (UK time zone).

Mäletate veel neid Ripe 'n Ready sokke? Muster sai kunagi tehtud Isetegija foorumi salakudumise jaoks. Mosaiik-koes kahevärvilised palmikud on efektsed ja üsna lihtsad kududa. Kogu aeg on töös ainult üks lõng, mitte kaks/kolm, nagu kirjatud kudumites. Nüüd osutus sokimuster see valituks HiyaHiya Free & Fun KAL kooskudumiseks Ravelrys.

The third news is for my Estonian readers, at this point of time anyway. I wrote a brand new sock pattern for the MKAL held in an Estonian craft forum Mustrimaailm. The pattern will be released in English too, hopefully in April. Stay tuned! I will share some sneak peeks as MKAL progresses.

Kolmas uudis on ka! Mustrimaailmas algab kohe täna uhiuus soki-salakas! Seekord ainult VIPidele, sest tegemist uhiuue mustriga. Ühine ka, saab lõbus olema, no ma loodan vähemalt ;)
